Opening a shop on Build a Gift is free. There are no listing fees and no monthly fees. You pay only when you make a sale.
1. The 5% Build a Gift fee
For every sale, Build a Gift keeps 5% of your item prices. That’s the only fee we charge.
- It’s taken from item prices only. The shipping the buyer pays goes to you in full, with no 5% taken from it.
- There are no listing fees, no monthly fees and no fees to set up payouts.
2. Card processing by Stripe
Buyers pay by card (or Link, Cash App Pay, Amazon Pay and similar) through Stripe. Stripe charges 2.9% + 30¢ per order to process the payment, and that cost is deducted from your payout.
- It applies to the whole amount the buyer pays you, items and shipping, because Stripe processes the full payment.
- We pass it on at cost. We use the exact fee Stripe charges for that payment and add nothing on top.
- Stripe sometimes charges a little more, for example for a card issued outside the US. In that case the exact fee is what’s deducted.
3. Example
A buyer orders a $20.00 candle from your shop and pays $5.00 shipping, so they pay $25.00.

The shipping money in your payout is there to pay for the label. Buy it from the order in your dashboard.
4. Orders with items from several shops
A buyer can check out with items from more than one shop and pay once. Stripe charges one processing fee for the whole payment, including just one 30¢. Each shop pays only its share of that fee, based on its share of the total, so you pay a bit less than you would on an order of your own.
For example, a buyer pays $73.00 in one checkout: $25.00 to Shop A ($20.00 items + $5.00 shipping) and $48.00 to Shop B ($40.00 items + $8.00 shipping). Stripe’s fee is $2.42, split like this:

5. When you get paid
When a buyer pays, your share is transferred to your Stripe payout account automatically. Stripe then sends it on to your bank account.
Every order is listed under Seller Dashboard → Payouts with its sale amount, the 5% fee, card processing and what you receive. Until Stripe confirms the exact card processing fee for an order, the amounts show as an estimate (≈).
